Terrarium workshop on the October long weekend in Newtown

Saturday 3rd October is the first day of the NSW October long weekend, and the King Street session runs at 11am as usual. Ninety minutes of building, and you still have two days of the weekend left over.

Daylight saving starts overnight that Sunday, which is roughly the point where Sydney light levels lift for the rest of spring. A terrarium built in early October goes home into steadily improving conditions, so the plants establish faster than anything potted up in the middle of winter.

What's included in your terrarium workshop ticket

Each ticket covers everything you need on the day. You'll work with a glass terrarium vessel, four plants chosen for terrarium conditions, potting mix, stones, and decorative finishing elements. No tools, no materials, nothing to bring except yourself. The NGM team guides you through the build from start to finish, and you take the completed terrarium home at the end of the session. Sessions run for approximately 90 minutes. All skill levels welcome, including complete beginners.

Common questions about the October long weekend session

Do I need any experience to build a terrarium?

No. Most people at an NGM workshop have never built one before. The session is structured so complete beginners finish with the same result as everyone else in the room, and the NGM team works through each stage alongside you rather than demonstrating from the front.

How long does the workshop run?

Sessions run for approximately 90 minutes from an 11am start. That covers plant selection, the build itself, and time for questions about looking after the terrarium once it is home. You take the finished piece with you on the day.

Can I book for a group?

Yes. Book the number of tickets you need and your group works together at the same table. For a private session with the room to yourselves, or a corporate booking, contact the NGM team directly and a separate date can be arranged.

Can I transfer my ticket to another date?

Tickets transfer to a future session with at least 48 hours notice. Contact the NGM team at 538 King Street to arrange it. Inside 48 hours the ticket is non-refundable, because plants and vessels are prepared per booking.

Booking your spot

Tickets are sold in limited numbers to keep sessions genuinely hands-on. When a session shows as sold out, check back, as cancellations do occasionally free up spots. Corporate and private group bookings for the same format are available separately. Cancellation policy: contact the NGM team at least 48 hours before your session to transfer to a future date. No refunds within 48 hours of the session.
