Late spring terrarium workshop in Sydney's Inner West

Saturday 31st October is the last session before Sydney tips over into summer. Late spring is when the Inner West looks its best, jacarandas included, and it is a sensible point in the year to add something green indoors as well as out.

A finished terrarium is largely self-contained, which is why it suits people who travel over summer or who have not had much luck with pot plants. Sealed and semi-sealed builds recycle their own moisture and need watering far less often than anything in an open pot.

What's included in your terrarium workshop ticket

Each ticket covers everything you need on the day. You'll work with a glass terrarium vessel, four plants chosen for terrarium conditions, potting mix, stones, and decorative finishing elements. No tools, no materials, nothing to bring except yourself. The NGM team guides you through the build from start to finish, and you take the completed terrarium home at the end of the session. Sessions run for approximately 90 minutes. All skill levels welcome, including complete beginners.

Questions about the 31st October session

Does a terrarium make a good gift?

It does, and a workshop ticket works as one too. People who build a terrarium themselves tend to keep it going longer than one they were handed finished. If you would rather someone chose their own date, NGM gift cards are available in store at 538 King Street.

How big is the finished terrarium?

Finished builds are a desk or shelf scale piece, planted into the glass vessel included with the ticket and holding four plants. It travels home by hand comfortably. Contact the NGM team before booking if you need exact dimensions for a particular spot.

How does a terrarium handle a Sydney summer?

Well, provided it stays out of direct sun. Sydney's summer humidity suits the species used, and the enclosed environment buffers them against dry air conditioning. Heat through glass is the risk, not the season itself, so keep it clear of a west-facing window.

Can I book the whole session privately?

Yes. Private and corporate bookings run the same 90 minute format at the nursery, or on site at your venue for larger groups. Contact the NGM team directly rather than booking individual tickets and a date can be held for you.

Booking your spot

Tickets are sold in limited numbers to keep sessions genuinely hands-on. When a session shows as sold out, check back, as cancellations do occasionally free up spots. Corporate and private group bookings for the same format are available separately. Cancellation policy: contact the NGM team at least 48 hours before your session to transfer to a future date. No refunds within 48 hours of the session.
