Pre-Christmas terrarium workshop at 538 King Street

Saturday 28th November is the last session currently scheduled before Christmas, and it lands at the point where most people have started thinking about presents. A terrarium built at the end of November has four weeks to settle in and is looking its best by late December.

Newtown Garden Market runs these at 538 King Street and the format does not change with the season. Ninety minutes, a glass vessel, four plants chosen for enclosed conditions, and the NGM team working through the build with you at the nursery.

What's included in your terrarium workshop ticket

Each ticket covers everything you need on the day. You'll work with a glass terrarium vessel, four plants chosen for terrarium conditions, potting mix, stones, and decorative finishing elements. No tools, no materials, nothing to bring except yourself. The NGM team guides you through the build from start to finish, and you take the completed terrarium home at the end of the session. Sessions run for approximately 90 minutes. All skill levels welcome, including complete beginners.

Questions about the pre-Christmas session

Can I build a terrarium as a Christmas present?

Yes, and late November timing suits it. The planting has four weeks to settle before Christmas, which is when a terrarium looks its best. If you would rather give the experience than the object, NGM gift cards are available in store at 538 King Street.

Will a terrarium survive a Sydney summer?

Yes, with one condition. Keep it out of direct sun. Glass magnifies heat and that is what damages the plants, not the outside temperature. Sydney's summer humidity actually suits the species used, and an enclosed terrarium needs less attention than a pot plant over the holidays.

Is this the last workshop of the year?

The 28th November session is the last one currently scheduled for 2026. New dates are added through the year and appear on the Newtown Garden Market workshops page when they open. Contact the NGM team if you want to hear when the next block goes up.

Can I book this for a work team?

Yes. Corporate bookings run the same format, either at the King Street nursery or on site at your venue for larger groups. Contact the NGM team directly to arrange a date rather than booking individual tickets.

Booking your spot

Tickets are sold in limited numbers to keep sessions genuinely hands-on. When a session shows as sold out, check back, as cancellations do occasionally free up spots. Corporate and private group bookings for the same format are available separately. Cancellation policy: contact the NGM team at least 48 hours before your session to transfer to a future date. No refunds within 48 hours of the session.
