Build a terrarium at peak Sydney spring

Mid-September is peak spring in Sydney, and terrarium plants respond well to the longer days. A workshop this month means your finished build goes home into the best growing conditions of the year.

Saturday morning workshops at Newtown Garden Market are a reliable way to start the weekend with something to show for it. The King Street session runs for around 90 minutes. You build a glass terrarium from scratch with the NGM team guiding the process, then finish up with a coffee and cookie from Flour Drum next door.

What's included in your terrarium workshop ticket

Each ticket covers everything you need on the day. You'll work with a glass terrarium vessel, four plants chosen for terrarium conditions, potting mix, stones, and decorative finishing elements. No tools, no materials, nothing to bring except yourself. The NGM team guides you through the build from start to finish, and you take the completed terrarium home at the end of the session. Sessions run for approximately 90 minutes. All skill levels welcome, including complete beginners.

What plants are used in the workshop?

The NGM team selects plants suited to terrarium conditions, specifically species that handle the humidity and indirect light of a glass enclosure. The exact selection varies by session based on what's available and in good condition.

How do I care for my terrarium after the workshop?

The NGM team covers basic terrarium care as part of the session. As a general guide, most terrariums need indirect light and minimal watering. The team is available in-store for follow-up questions.

Can I transfer my ticket to another date?

Tickets can be transferred to a future session with at least 48 hours notice. Contact the NGM team directly to arrange a transfer.

Booking your spot

Tickets are sold in limited numbers to keep sessions genuinely hands-on. When a session shows as sold out, check back, as cancellations do occasionally free up spots. Corporate and private group bookings for the same format are available separately. Cancellation policy: contact the NGM team at least 48 hours before your session to transfer to a future date. No refunds within 48 hours of the session.
