Laurus nobilis or Bay tree is a large-sized evergreen shrub or small tree, reaching 6 metres tall when left unpruned. These make a good hedging plant, or can be incorporated into a vegetable garden to make use of their culinary purposes.
Laurus nobilis grows best in full sun to light shade, tolerating most soil types, even clay. Fertilise through the growing season with an organic, slow-release fertiliser to keep plants resistant to pest and disease. If scale or mealybug is encountered, these can be treated with a horticultural oil, such as Eco-oil.
